Lockie Leonard is a fictional character in a series of children's novels. The books were written by Booker Prize nominee, Tim Winton. Lockie Leonard is a surf rat who moves from the city to Angelus, Western Australia, the most remote town on earth. Lockie has to deal with starting high school in a new town with no friends and a house that is in danger of sinking into a swamp. His father is a police officer who everybody calls Sarge, his mother Joy, is frighteningly understanding, his brother Phillip still wets the bed and his baby sister Barbara (Blob), who everyone calls Blob, likes to eat the lino.

(Reuters) - The San Antonio Spurs are just one win away from the NBA Finals after coming back from an 18-point deficit to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 104-93 in overtime in Memphis on Saturday. The Spurs lead the best-of-seven Western Conference Finals 3-0 after the victory and can sweep into the title series for the first time since 2007 with another win on Monday. The term “zombie director” refers to a board member who’s elected without the support of a majority of the shareholder votes — and their existance infuriates corporate governance watchdogs. But Cablevision reports today that two of the five candidates for the board seats to represent public investors failed to meet that threshold at yesterday’s annual meeting. Since the company only nominated five people for the openings — and there were no outside candidates — they couldn’t lose. But Bond Street Holdings’ Vincent Tese won with just 45.2% supporting him and 54.8% withholding approval. New Century Holdings’ Leonard Tow was supported by 48.2%. Another director who failed to win a majority last time — former JP Morgan Chase Managing Director Thomas Reifenheiser — barely made it above that level with 50.5% support. The results outraged New York City Comptroller John Liu who oversees the city pension funds’ 532,020 Class A Cablevision shares and had urged investors to oppose the board candidates. “Shareowners delivered a stinging rebuke to the five Cablevision directors we opposed for being ineffective and unaccountable, including majority votes against two of them,” Liu said. “Both Mr. Tese and Dr. Tow, should immediately step down. In Mr. Tese’s case, this is the third majority vote against his directorship in the past four years. Veteran business affairs attorney Leonard Kalcheim died today at his home in Los Angeles after a long illness. He was 74. Kalcheim started as an attorney at ABC before moving to Paramount Pictures, where he worked for more than 20 years, rising to SVP Business & Legal Affairs. After leaving Paramount in 1986, Kalcheim oversaw business and legal affairs for several independent entertainment companies including Guthy-Renker, Nash Entertainment and Atlas Media. He was a captain in the Army from 1965-67 after graduating from Columbia Law School.
The book retail chain’s shares are up 8.1% in mid-afternoon trading, making it one of the day’s biggest gainers in the media pack. Barron’s appears to be largely responsible for the move after it seized this weekend on reports that Microsoft might be willing to pay $1B for Barnes & Noble‘s NOOK tablet and e-reader platform. “It’s possible Microsoft may bid for Nook or the whole company, and there could also be interest from Liberty [Media]” which already owns 17% of Barnes & Noble, Barron’s says. Deals could send shares up as much as 50% the magazine estimates. The Microsoft rumor took off two weeks ago after Techcrunch cited “internal documents” that confirmed an offer. That sent shares to a 52-week high of $23.71. But enthusiasm fizzled last week when web site Insider Monkey reported that a “highly placed source inside Microsoft” said an acquisition “is not happening in the foreseeable future.” That hasn’t put speculation about a big deal to rest. Founder Leonard Riggio has said that he might make an offer for the retail stores, although he hasn’t made it yet.
