MTV News takes you behind the scenes of Facebook in a 2011 documentary that explores the company's unique non-corporate culture.By Gil Kaufman Mark Zuckerberg Photo: Tomohiro Ohsumi/Bloomberg/Getty Images It's the biggest initial public offering since the late-1990's heyday of Internet 1.0. Hell, it's the biggest tech IPO ever. Everyone wants to get in on the long-awaited Facebook IPO, which is offering up more than 484 million shares that are expected to raise nearly $18.5 billion for the world's most popular social networking site. By the time all is said and done, the bright idea hatched by co-founder Mark Zuckerberg in his college dorm room could turn his company into a $100 billion behemoth. Since launching as a campus-only network in 2004, the site has allowed more than 900 million users around the world to connect, post pictures and stories and keep circles of friends appraised on every move they make while fundamentally altering the way we spend our time, communicate and share our private lives. When MTV News visited the company's Palo Alto, California, headquarters in 2011 for "Diary of Facebook,", we took viewers inside the matrix to find out how its young employees keep the engine running and what fuels their passion. Among the revelations in the piece was an exploration of the unique FB phenomenon known "hack-a-thons," during which Zuckerberg said some of the site's best ideas are generated. "Hack-a-thons are this awesome part of our culture," Zuckerberg said of the 24-hour marathons of coding and brainstorming. "Every month or two, everyone stays up all night just experimenting with things and building things quickly. And the only rule is that you're not allowed to work on the same thing that your day job is." It's that kind of irreverence and corporate rule-ditching energy — those who can't code join in by cooking, juggling or drawing to stay energized — that has pushed the Facebook IPO from a financial and tech story to a metaphor for our entrepreneurial times. With the college job market for new grads looking the best it has since the start of the recession in 2007 and tech start-ups blossoming like it's 1998 all over again, the Los Angeles Times wrote that the Facebook heat could help spark a renaissance of Internet heat. "Wealth has trickled down to employees and investors who cashed in their shares ahead of the IPO on private exchanges", the paper reported. "Others are spending in advance of their big payday, fueling an economy that's already humming thanks to the Bay Area's thriving technology sector." Facebook's stock offering could mint dozens, if not hundreds of new millionaires. And it's a fair bet that those suddenly-flush geeks could go on to form new companies that will be on the lookout for fresh young faces (and minds) to help them, yes, become the next Facebook. So, get your résumé updated, you could be up next. Related Videos The Diary Of Facebook

Gabel reveals plans to Rolling Stone to take the name Laura Jane Grace after undergoing gender transition.By Katie Byrne Tom Gabel of Against Me! Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has come out as transgender and discussed plans to begin living as a woman in the next issue of Rolling Stone. Gabel, who will go by Laura Jane Grace and remain married to wife Heather, will undergo electrolysis treatments and take hormones to make the transition from male to female. "For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news," Gabel told Rolling Stone of Heather. "But she's been super-amazing and understanding." Gabel has dealt with gender dysphoria for years and decided it was a good time to speak up about the private struggle, telling only a few family members and friends about the upcoming transition before talking with the magazine. "I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun," Gabel said of coming out. "But that's part of what talking to you is about — is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind." Though Gabel is the first major rock star to undergo a gender transformation, she's hardly the first celebrity. Larry Wachowski, half of the Wachowski-brother directing duo behind the "Matrix" trilogy, has been credited as Lana Wachowki in recent work and seems to now identify as a woman, though neither sibling has spoken publicly on the subject. Chaz Bono, meanwhile, made a very public run on "Dancing With the Stars" as the first transgender contestant. Chaz, born the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, underwent female-to-male gender transition between 2008 and 2010. In the next issue of Rolling Stone, due Friday, Gabel will tell her full story, including what the revelation means for the future of Against Me! Related Artists Against Me!

'I picked, like, eight songs, and I've strung 'em along like movies,' Capo tells Mixtape Daily of project's upcoming videos. By Rob Markman Jim Jones Photo: MTV News Main Pick Headliner: Jim Jones Representing: Harlem, New York Mixtape: Vampire Life 2: Feast (The Last Supper) Real Spit: Don't let Jim Jones' chiseled physique fool you, the Harlem hustler loves to eat. A true hustler in every sense of the word, the Dipset capo went from a background player to the star of his team, directing videos, running labels and then jumping to the forefront as a rapper. And his new mixtape, Vampire Life 2: Feast, is a culmination of all of his respective hustles. "I've been working on the mixtape called the F.E.A.S.T.; [it stands for] 'family eatin' and stayin' true,' " Jones recently told Mixtape Daily. "We've got a dope group of individuals. Some you've seen before, some new faces." Jones isn't stopping with music either. He plans to release a number of cinematic music videos for Feast. "I picked, like, eight songs, and I've strung 'em along like movies," he explained, "Something good for people to look at. I haven't seen something like that in a minute. I think it'll be very interesting." It's all very fitting because the mixtape is cinematic from the start. On "F.E.A.S.T. Prelude," Jim brags about his money-making ventures over a dramatic backdrop, setting the listener up for what they're about to hear. "60 Rackz" is as rich as the title suggests. Over a bouncy synth track, Jimmy and newcomer T.W.O. spend cash with reckless abandon. "I got my top back when I lean, got that in my genes/ Can't believe I put 60 racks in the poc-ket of my jeans," Jones raps of the $60,000 cash that he keeps on hand. Fifteen of the 17 tracks on the tape feature guest rappers, but Jimmy doesn't use them as a crutch. For the most part, Feast introduces us to a new cast of characters, including T.W.O. and Ryder. Sen City and Mel Matrix make appearances as well, but it's clear that Vampire Life 2 is strictly a family affair. Capo continues to flaunt his riches alongside Trav on "Show Off" and then pledges allegiance to the hustle on "Sleep When You're Dead." Lyrically, the mixtape doesn't vary much, but musically it's rich. "Forgive," with lush its instrumentation, allows Jimmy to deliver one of his more introspective rhymes. "The coke so high it's hard to come up/ Tryin' hard to make it home before God let the sun up," he spits about the downside of his former street hustles. Jim Jones is a hustler at heart, but rather than keep all of the spoils to himself on Feast, he splits the pie with a number rap newcomers.
