Now that speculation seems to have been quashed over whether Michael Giacchino would inherit John Williams’ spot on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars” gig, the question then turned to where the “Star Trek Into Darkness” composer would land next, besides the Wachowskis’ “Jupiter Ascending.” But in record time, Giacchino has continued to prove himself one of the most sought-after in the business, and attached himself to another successful sci-fi franchise. Giacchino recently popped up on Twitter to announce his latest gig, writing, “This is how I will dress when recording the score for Matt Reeves’ 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes!' ” accompanied by a picture of a monkey in a conductor’s uniform, holding a baton. The Cannes selection is set to open the Director’s Fortnight sidebar May 16. Director Ari Folman follows his Oscar-nominated Waltz With Bashir with a live-action/animation blend adapted from Stanislaw Lem’s sci-fi novel The Futurological Congress.
