
Starz/BBC series The White Queen will debut on Starz on Saturday, August 10, following the Friday season finale of Magic City. The 10-episode drama, based on the bestselling historical novels by Philippa Gregory, is set against the backdrop of England’s Wars of the Roses and stars Max Irons, Amanda Hale, James Frain, newcomers Rebecca Ferguson and Faye Marsay and Oscar nominee Janet McTeer. The pop princess has splashed out a cool $11.2 million on three adjoining parcels of land, which include a stunning $3 million home, and OKMagazine.com has photos of the gorgeous property, courtesy of Zillow.com. The 2,916 square foot mid-century modern abode was previously owned by Max and Rebecca Weinberg, and consists of five bedrooms and three bathrooms. Any hopes that the HTC One would lead to a rapid turnaround for struggling electronics manufacturer HTC have apparently vanished. Unnamed sources have told The Verge that HTC is in a state of chaos and that high-profile employees are fleeing left and right. Among the recently departed at HTC are former chief product officer Kouji Kodera, former vice president of global communications Jason Gordon, former global retail marketing manager Rebecca Rowland, former director of digital marketing John Starkweather and former product strategy manager Eric Lin. As Cannes passes its halfway mark, already a number of deals and release dates have been set, with Asghar Farhadi’s “The Past” being just the latest. But away from the Croisette, a number of smaller pictures are nearing release, and a diverse slate at that: a UK cop thriller with a stellar ensemble, a coming of age drama starring Claire Danes, and a space horror with Sharlto Copley in the lead. Director Nick Murphy first landed on the scene with modest horror film, “The Awakening,” starring Rebecca Hall, and now he’s followed that film up with a new ensemble piece, “Blood.” Starring Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham as cop brothers who investigate a girl’s murder, only to try and cover up their actions afterwards, the film also throws supporting turns from Brian Cox and Mark Strong into the mix. The talent is definitely there, and we had a good time with it at the London Film Festival last year – keep an eye on this one as it hits UK cinemas May 31st, and hopefully nails down a U.S....
