
June 13, 2013 – Santa Monica- Jason Weiss has joined Myriad Pictures as Senior Vice President, Production, it was announced today by Myriad CEO Kirk D’Amico. In this role, Weiss will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Myriad’s growing production and development activities. Myriad’s current production projects include the recently announced Weightless starring Jessica Alba, written and to be directed by Academy Award nominee Milo Addica, the action thriller Caught Stealing starring Patrick Wilson and Alec Baldwin, and the comedy Guidance starring Seann William Scott and Leslie Bibb. Weiss most recently has been heading up his own production/management company. Prior to that, Weiss started up and ran MGM’s DVD Premiere division, where he oversaw production and development of a slate of movies primarily based on MGM library franchises such as Legally Blonde, Stargate, The Cutting Edge, Into The Blue and Dead Like Me; as well as original movies such as Picture This starring Ashley Tisdale. Weiss was also an executive at MTV Films, where he oversaw projects such as The Dirt (Based on Neil Strauss’s book about Motley Crue), Black Hole (based on the graphic novels by Charles Burns), and the remake of the 1979 Walter Hill movie The Warriors. Keshet Int’l Invades Canada With Mark Rubenstein Keshet International is moving into Canada via a joint venture with veteran TV executive Mark Rubinstein. Keshet Canada will bring Keshet’s scripted and unscripted formats to the Canadian market and will look to develop, produce and co-produce original content. Rubinstein is a former president and CEO of Insight Sports and COO of Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting. The joint venture will have the rights to over 50 Keshet International properties, to be produced in the territory under the Keshet Canada banner. Keshet, the company behind Prisoners Of War, the Israeli source of Homeland, has recently set up shop in Australia and the UK. Bona Film Group Gets $34.2M Credit Line China’s Bona Film Group, which part owned by News Corp., has secured a $34.2M revolving credit line with China Minsheng Banking Corp. The facility will be for three years and will be used to help grow exhibition, production and distribution. News Corp. acquired a 19.9% equity stake in the Nasdaq-listed Bona in May 2012, and in October Fox International Productions and Bona entered a multi-picture co-producing pact for Chinese-language films. In a notice posted on its procurement website, the U.S. space agency said it was looking for one or more companies to take over operations and maintenance of Launch Complex 39A. The facility is one of two launch pads at the Kennedy Space Center built in the 1960s to support the Apollo moon program.
