Filed under: Car Buying, Convertible, Coupe, Performance, Crossover, Audi, BMW, Canada Audi TT RS - Click above for high-res image gallery When Audi launched the TT RS, we were initially told that the automaker had no plans to bring it to the States. And while rumors have cropped up that suggest otherwise, we still don't have the official word from Audi about whether we'll ever get the chance to experience the 335-horsepower TT. However, our friends to the north can apparently rejoice - Audi will reportedly be bringing the TT RS to Canada, albeit in very limited numbers (250 units, to be exact). It is not yet clear whether those 250 units will be in coupe or convertible form - or both. Additionally, Monvolant reports that Canadian consumers will be able to spec a rear-wheel drive BMW X1 when the crossover goes on sale next year - a configuration that will not be available in the States. Canada is likely to only receive X1s equipped with BMW's 3.0-liter inline-six, good for around 260 horsepower. We aren't very upset about the fact that U.S.-spec X1s will only have all-wheel drive. However, if Audi is going to tease us by bringing 250 examples of the too-hot TT to this continent, the least it could do is spec a few for U.S. (or just Autoblog) consumption. Thanks for the tip, Martin! Filed under: Spy Photos, Budget, Sedan, Kia, South Korea 2011 Kia Optima - Click above for high-res image gallery According to a very well placed source deep within the South Korean manufacturing giant Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, the sedan above is not the 2012 Hyundai Azera as reported yesterday. Not only is the car not an Azera, it's not even a Hyundai. You are in fact looking at the 2011 Kia Optima. Though there is a 25% chance that this might be the 2012 Kia Optima. Sadly, and regardless, we know next to nothing about this new Optima, other than the fact that the rest of the world will still probably know it as the Magentis. However, we know what we can hope for. Judging by the position of the front wheels (they're almost at the door cut, totally FWD) we feel confident saying this here Optima will not be riding on any version of the RWD Hyundai Genesis platform. In other words, this is not the Kia K9. Still, we bet that Kia's new styling guru (and OG Audi TT designer) Peter Schreyer will ensure this is the best looking Optima yet. Not a large hill to climb, but one that needs summiting for sure. We'll give you more info when we get it. Filed under: New York Auto Show, Etc.We couldn't blame you for thinking that all of the 'Of the Year" awards were finished for the 2010, but there's still at least a few key bits of shiny hardware that have yet to be handed out - the World Car of the Year and World Performance Car of the Year. And while we're not yet sure who will take home the big prizes, we do have a short(er)list of nominees for both accolades. The field has been whittled down by 59 jurors to 10 possible winners in each category, and the top three finalists will be announced next month at the Geneva Motor Show ahead of the actual award ceremony at April's New York Auto Show. The nominees are... 2010 World Car of the Year Audi Q5 BMW X1 Chevrolet Cruze Kia Soul Mazda3 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Opel/Vauxhall Insignia / Buick Regal Porsche Panamera Toyota Prius Volkswagen Polo Given the company it's in, we're not altogether sure why the Panamera isn't in the World Performance Car running instead, but we digress. Speaking of which... 2010 World Performance Car of the Year Aston Martin V12 Vantage Audi R8 V10 Audi TT RS Coupé / Roadster BMW Z4 Ferrari California Jaguar XFR Lotus Evora Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG Nissan 370Z Porsche 911 GT3 Porsche Boxster / Cayman Lest we forget, there's also the 2010 World Green Car of the Year award to be handed out, and you can check out that verdant bunch of shortlisters over at Autobloggreen. For 2009, the Volkswagen Golf and Nissan GT-R brought home the bacon in their respective categories. Filed under: Convertible, Coupe, Performance, Jaguar, Luxury 1952 Jaguar C-Type - Click above for high-res image gallery Lovers of Jaguar sports-coupes - of which there are more than a few here at Autoblog - have only had the XK to subsist on for quite some time now. And a silken cat it is, to be sure, but soon it'll have company. According to a report from Inside Line, Coventry is proceeding with preparations to launch an oft-rumored and long-speculated new sportscar. Tentatively dubbed "C-Type" and (unimaginatively) referred to internally as the "small sports car," the new vehicle will reportedly be based on a new aluminum monocoque chassis. IL indicates that the engine bay will be big enough to accommodate the company's 5.0-liter V8 (supercharged C-Type R, anyone?), but power is is initially expected to come from a turbocharged V6, developed in-house off the V8's architecture. Both coupe and soft-top convertible bodystyles are expected to form part of the formula when the new sportscar arrives to take on the likes of the Mercedes SLK, BMW Z4 and Audi TT within the next two years. While we eagerly anticipate the C-Type's arrival, our compatriots at IL also report that the rumored XJ coupe - targeting the likes of the Bentley Continental GT and Mercedes CL-Class - is not currently in the running. But given the choice between a small, lightweight sportscar and an oversized coupe, we'll gladly take the former.
