Lamborghini Murcielago Wallpapers

The Lamborghini Murcielago is 2-seater, 2-door coupe with the now familiar gull-wing doors based on the traditional Lamborghini layout: mid-mounted V12 engine, typical Lamborghini transmission with the gearbox mounted in front of the engine and the rear differential integrated into the engine unit, permanent four-wheel drive with central viscous coupler.

This layout, successfully employed by Lamborghini for more than 30 years, affords an optimal weight distribution (42% front and 58% rear) with conspicuous advantages for traction, braking and handling. The Murciélago chassis has been stiffened considerably to achieve a torsional rigidity value in excess of 20,000 Nm/°.

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Etc., Videos, Lamborghini The secret art of automotive photography - Click above to watch the video after the jump Over the past few years here at Autoblog, we've come to pride ourselves on our photography. But far from convincing ourselves that we're the be-all-and-end-all, if anything, our drive to provide better visuals has only taught us to appreciate quality automotive photography all the more. There's certainly no lack of that out there these days, and the intertubes have only made it all more accessible. In the video after the jump, car-photog GF Williams shows us what it takes to make a good shot great. His subject? No less dramatic (or succinctly named) a ride than the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce. Follow the jump to see what a skilled hand in Photoshop can do, and follow the link to see the results. Thanks for the tip, Chris! Filed under: Aftermarket, Performance, Geneva Motor Show, Europe, Crossover, BMW Hamann Tycoon EVO M - Click above for high-res image gallery We'll come clean. Collectively, we spend an unexpected amount time repeating the following sentence, "As much as I know I shouldn't, I love the BMW X6. I know it's wrong, I know. But it's just a great car." But you know what makes less sense than the X6? The X6 M. That car's stone cold crazy. Therefore we like it even more than the regular flavor SAC (Sports Activity Coupe). Have you met our friend Hamann? For the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Hamann brought along its new Tycoon EVO M. And... it's quite bonkers. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 has been pumped up to the tune of 670 horsepower and 576 pound-feet of torque. For comparison's sake, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce's mighty 6.5-liter V12 produces 670 hp - exactly the same amount as the Hamann Tycoon EVO M. Crazy, no? Oh, also, the mightiest ever Lambo makes 89 lb-ft of torque less than this mental patient Hamann. Then there's the little matter of the carbon fiber. Look, we're all for saving precious pounds but keep it real for a minute. Before Hamann got their filthy mitts all over it, the X6 M weighed in at 5,324 pounds. Lord (and Hamann) only knows what it weighs now. And since we're keeping it real, shaving a few pounds off the front end of an over-powered beast like the Tycoon is killing a mouse with the 101st Airborne. In other words, the carbon fiber hood and splitter is nothing but blingy, look-at-me bunting. And since we're ragging on conspicuous displays of too much wealth, Tycoon? Really? That said, we've never seen 23-inch wheels look so perfectly at home. Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Lamborghini The 4,000th Lamborghini Murcielago - Click above for high-res image It's been a long time since Lamborghini introduced the Murcielago. In it's original form the Diablo replacement came with a 6.2-liter V12 putting out 580 horsepower and 480 lb-ft torque. Since then Lamborghini has continuously upgraded the car with more horsepower, limited editions like the Reventon and the series-ending flagship in the form of the LP670-4 SuperVeloce. We've also seen plenty of good and bad tuner versions, and Lamborghini even managed to have a little success in motorsports. Best of all, we even got to take an LP640 home for a few days and couldn't help but fall in love with the Italian supercar. Why all the reminiscing? Lamborghini has just built the 4,000th Murcielago. In comparison, just 2,900 Diablos were built from 1991-2001. The 4,000th Murcielago was recently completed at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory where Lamborghini celebrated the occasion. The car in question is an LP670-4 SV model with a bright Arancione Atlas (orange) paint scheme, and its lucky new owner will take delivery at Lamborghini's showroom in Hangzhou, China. You can read the brief press release after the jump or remind yourself how much you want a Murcie by checking out the gallery below. Filed under: Coupe, Hybrid, Performance, Lamborghini, Luxury Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce - Click above for high-res image gallery How much horsepower is enough? While we're fairly certain some might be answering that rhetorical question with raised eyebrows, Lamborghini is seemingly content with a number just shy of 700 raging horses. That doesn't mean that the Italian supercar manufacturer won't continue its unabated push towards ever-quicker acceleration - though top speeds higher than 211 miles per hour sound unlikely - but there's clearly more than one way to skin a cat Prancing Horse. Why not just build a bigger engine? Simple, as company CEO Stephan Winkelmann correctly observes, "It has come to the point where acceleration equals consumption. More consumption means increased CO2 emissions." Apparently, the answer to the power conundrum will be less weight. "We will use composite materials in the right place, when it also has the right cost, stiffness and mechanical characteristics," explains R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani. Expect aluminum to be used in place of heavier steel, along with improved aerodynamics and stop/start technology to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. We've also heard repeated rumblings of full hybrid powertrains, though those seem more likely to come at the tail end of the decade. Whatever the case, it should be interesting to see how all the world's supercar manufacturers - Lamborghini included - grapple with the push to be green while also upholding their performance traditions.
