Host Jimmy Fallon adds slushees and Twitter to the awards-show mix.By Mawuse Ziegbe Jimmy Fallon onstage at the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards kicked off not with a bang, but with a splash. Host Jimmy Fallon corralled the cast of the Emmy Award-nominated hit "Glee" for a cold open straight out of McKinley High. Enlisting stars like Jon Hamm, Tina Fey and Betty White, while dodging an overeager Kate Gosselin, the gang jumped around until Jane Lynch doused Fallon and Fey with a candy-colored slushee, demanding to be added to the song-and-dance number. Then things really got poppin'. Fallon punched up the Emmys telecast with digital and musical touches similar to those he often uses on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." He didn't slow-jam any of the categories, but the comedian did strap on an acoustic guitar to introduce sizzle reels recapping the year in television. A few lucky Emmy fans on Twitter got some love when Fallon wove their comments into his intro for presenters like Sofia Vergara, Tina Fey and Jim Parsons. Jim Parsons from "The Big Bang Theory" edged out favored stars like Steve Carell, Tony Shalhoub and Alec Baldwin for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition to new music and technology, new faces dominated the evening, as several Emmy victors took home hardware for the first time. Claire Danes from "Temple Grandin," Eric Stonestreet from "Modern Family," "Glee" scene-stealer Lynch, Archie Panjabi from "The Good Wife" and Aaron Paul from "Breaking Bad" all scored their first trophies. "Glee" golden boy Ryan Murphy also snagged his first Emmy for Directing for a Comedy Series for the pilot of the Fox hit. Although low on nutty, unscripted live-television moments, the telecast delivered send-ups of some of television's biggest hits. In one clip, the cast of the Outstanding Comedy Series "Modern Family" endures inane suggestions about how to improve the show. Ideas included teaming up with animated potty mouth Stewie from "Family Guy," shooting the show in 3-D and adding the dreamy George Clooney, who also received the night's Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, to the mix. Fallon also kept the tone light with a tribute to shows we lost over the past year. Manning a pink piano and sporting rose-colored glasses, à la Elton John, Fallon revamped the pop icon's "Candle in the Wind" to honor the canceled "24." Then, busting out his admirable quick-change skills, the comic donned a cardigan, switched up Boyz II Men's "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" and poured out a 40 to commemorate "Law & Order." Then he sported a black emo getup and mussy hair like Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong for a version of "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" to honor "Lost." In a move likely intended to make the whole affair more relatable to viewers who are not television insiders, the show's announcer, "Daily Show" correspondent John Hodgman, rattled off tidbits about the winners as they took the stage. For instance, Emmy viewers learned that Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series winner Edie Falco's parents are "constantly making meatballs" because she is of Swedish and Italian descent. Categories honoring professionals behind the scenes were precluded by the nominees' anecdotal answers to questions like, "What was the weirdest note a network has given you?" or "What did your mom want you to be when you grew up?" After lamenting the lack of alcohol at the event and insisting no one in attendance is wild enough to do any real damage on the sauce, "The Office" creator Ricky Gervais resolved the issue by offering the audience trays of beer (although, "True Blood" vampire Alexander Skargård ribbed Gervais for giving out non-alcoholic brews). In one of the more heartfelt moments of the evening, George Clooney accepted his Bob Hope Humanitarian Award to a standing ovation and recounted his experiences with the late comedy legend. An acoustic performance by Jewel set the tone for a presentation honoring late Hollywood names such as Gary Coleman, Brittany Murphy, Lena Horne and Dennis Hopper. The eponymous star of "Temple Grandin" embraced one of the movie's producers in a bear hug in a refreshingly candid moment when the film won for Outstanding Made for Television Movie. Conan didn't get to take the stage for his short-lived but much-ballyhooed "Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" but Jon Hamm and Betty White joked about their "sexual chemistry." We got to see "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson briefly rock out on the bass, check out Sofia Vergara's curvy frame in 3-D and witness Fallon put Lady Gaga to shame with all his costume changes. All in all, it was an interesting night. What did you think about the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards? Let us know in the comments below! 'Honestly, I don't know how much longer I have in this game,' Em tells Vibe.By James Dinh Eminem and Dr. Dre on the cover of Vibe Photo: Vibe After more than a decade in the business, Eminem remains a hip-hop heavyweight, one who can still sell records as if it were the pre-Internet era. So it's hard to imagine what the music scene would be like if he wasn't around. Aside from remembering his "8 Mile" co-star Brittany Murphy in Vibe's 15th-anniversary "Juice" issue, Em also opens up about his inevitable retirement from the rap game. "Honestly, I don't know how much longer I have in this game," the 37-year-old MC told Vibe. "I'm always going to love hip-hop. But how much longer am I going to still do it? I couldn't give you an answer. But the day that this is not better than the last will probably be the day I stop." Despite his love for the game, the Detroit native said that even if he were to continue to get in the studio, he doubts he would release the music as a middle-aged MC. "I do love it so much. But even if I was rapping at 50, I don't know if I would put it out. I know it always makes me feel better to lay things to tape, and — 'lay the tape.' See, I'm old school," he said. In the August/September issue, Em also proves he can be his own worst critic, calling some of his previous material "mediocre." But he said that it's the fans who will ultimately decide his hip-hop fate. "The fans might say the sh-- is garbage. You don't how long people are going to want you around ... Realistically, if I don't rap, what the f--- am I going to do? It's too late to just be unfamous right now at this point," he admitted. Slim Shady is probably right about it being too late for him to fade into obscurity, but by the looks of things he probably has no reason to worry about losing his fanbase. His latest effort, Recovery, is smashing the competition and it sits atop next week's Billboard albums chart with sales of 133,000 pushing it past the 2.1 million mark in just eight weeks. AP - The Los Angeles coroner's office says Brittany Murphy's husband died from pneumonia, which also killed his actress wife months earlier.

Simon Monjack succumbed to the same illness as his late wife, final autopsy results show.By Mawuse Ziegbe Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack Photo: Riccardo Savi/ WireImage Brittany Murphy's husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack, died within months of his late wife — and from the same illness. Los Angeles County Coroner's officials announced Wednesday (August 4) that Monjack succumbed to pneumonia, just like Murphy, who died from the condition late last year. Monjack, 40, died in May at the couple's Hollywood home, five months after Murphy, 32, was found in the same house in December 2009. He was reportedly discovered by Murphy's mother, Sharon, who also found her daughter's body. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The Associated Press that, although prescription medications were present in his system, the drugs did not contribute to his death. Monjack, who wrote the 2000 movie "Two Days, Nine Lives," was initially thought to have died of cardiac arrest. In February, a coroner's report revealed that Murphy, who shot to fame in films such as "Clueless," "8 Mile" and "Sin City," died from a mix of pneumonia, anemia and prescription medication. The findings dispelled rumors that the actress abused illegal drugs or alcohol. Winter told the AP that the deaths were referred to county health officials and said that, in both cases, tragedy could have been avoided. "In simple English, they didn't take care of themselves," Winter said. "They didn't seek medical advice from a doctor. Brittany could have survived if she had gone to a hospital, and Simon I think could have done the same." Murphy and Monjack reportedly met when the actress was a teenager and quietly married years later in 2007 after a low-profile courtship. Related Photos Brittany Murphy: A Career Retrospective

'I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years,' he tells Vibe for his cover story with Eminem.By Hillary Crosley Eminem and Dr. Dre on the cover of Vibe Photo: Vibe While Eminem talked about death and Brittany Murphy in his interview for the Vibe "Juice" issue, Dr. Dre delved into his Detox delay, the "Under Pressure" leak and rumors of an instrumental album. The Eminem and Dr. Dre cover of Vibe's 15th-anniversary "Juice" issue is a nod to their original appearance in the mag eight years ago. The issue hits newsstands August 16, and Dre began by answering the question on many fans' minds: Did he know Detox would take this long? "Absolutely not. I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years," the super-producer said. "For example, actual work time on The Chronic was nine months, and actual work time on my last album, 2001, was about 10 months. The actual work time on this album is about half of that, where I'm seriously focusing on it. There is always something coming up. Like signing talent, old and new." The California icon also talked about the recent leak of his duet with Jay-Z, "Under Pressure." "[That] was a little bit more frustrating, because at least 'Crack a Bottle' had a hook on it," Dre said of a previous leak. "I wouldn't be as mad at a leak if the song was done. "I'm not mad at the fans," he continued. "I'm mad at the person that leaked the sh--. I have no idea how it got out. It's not even worth looking to see who did it. It happens. The most painful part about it is that I'm passionate about what I do, so people should hear it in the right form. Somebody actually hacked into our e-mails, so that made our red flags go up. We're in a new age, and that's a sign: 'Wake up, mother----er. You have to be more careful with your sh--.' That's all there is to it. I know what's up now." As for an album of instrumentals, Dre said it's definitely on deck. "Oh, yeah, that's in the works," he said. "An instrumental album is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I have the ideas for it. I want to call it The Planets. I don't even know if I should be saying this, but f--- it. [Laughs.] It's just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like. I'm gonna go off on that. Just all instrumental. I've been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet. I've been doing this for about two years now, just in my spare time, so to speak. I wanna do it in surround sound. It'll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work." 'It's crazy because at one point we were very close,' Em reveals in 'Juice' issue. The Detroit rapper graces the cover with Dr. Dre.By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem and Dr. Dre on the cover of Vibe Photo: Vibe Eminem and Dr. Dre return to grace the cover of the 15th anniversary of Vibe's "Juice" issue, eight years after the pair first landed on the front of the magazine. In the issue, on newsstands August 16, Em opens up about being haunted by death and talks about the death last year of his "8 Mile" co-star, Brittany Murphy. "It was crazy," the rapper told Vibe about Murphy's death. "It's crazy. It's crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person. It's crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting. ... Famous people. Famous people are overdosing at alarming rates and — that almost sounded like a commercial. Wow. "But they are," he continued. "And it's one of those things, man, where you're famous, doctors will kiss your ass because they love the celebrity. 'Oh, I can call up Eminem and get him on the phone right now. Oh, Hi Marshall, how are you doing? Do you need that [prescription]?' There are doctors that will give you certain things just because of who you are." The rapper acknowledged that he's been prone to think about his own demise. After battling a well-publicized drug addiction, only in the past two years has he rebounded from his dark slide. Still, Em said thought of dying, especially given his brushes with overdosing, can be frightening. "I think about it a lot," he said. "I try not to think about it but I do and it creeps me the f--- out. It creeps me out because they say that if I got to the hospital two hours later then I would be gone. I think about that a lot. When I lay in bed at night is when I think about it the most. It creeps me out, man." Related Photos Brittany Murphy: A Career Retrospective Related Artists Eminem Dr. Dre

A new twist has emerged in the tragic story of Brittany Murphy and her husband Simon Monjack

Preliminary autopsy results show that Simon Monjack died of severe anemia and acute pneumonia.By Gil Kaufman Simon Monjack Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images In yet another tragic twist in an already bizarre story, autopsy results have revealed that screenwriter Simon Monjack died of the same causes that killed his late wife, actress Brittany Murphy. According to E! News, while official autopsy results won't be available for several weeks, preliminary results indicate that, like Murphy, Monjack died of acute pneumonia and severe anemia. Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed that Monjack had some legal medications in his system but says that he did not die as a result of a prescription drug overdose or multiple drug intoxication; the drugs in his system were not specified. Winter listed prescription drugs as a contributing factor in Murphy's death on December 20 at the home she shared with her husband and mother, Sharon. Though Monjack had reportedly been experiencing heart problems in the weeks before his body was found on May 23 in the home he had shared with Murphy, Winter said heart disease had been ruled out as a contributing factor. Winter reportedly told E! that his office was slated to conduct one more test on Monjack at the request of Murphy's family, but he did not disclose details of what that test entailed. The official autopsy report will be available in two weeks. Sharon Murphy, who found both bodies, said she hoped Winter's comments would end media speculation about what killed her son-in-law. "As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany there was no kind of drug overdose," she said in a statement released through her publicist. "I am calling on the media to stop the reckless innuendos, that my daughter and son-in-law misused any kind of prescription medications." Related Photos Brittany Murphy: A Career Retrospective
