
Ambassador Theatre Group has acquired The Foxwoods Theatre from Live Nation Entertainment through its subsidiary, Lyric Theatre LLC. The Foxwoods is the largest theatre on Broadway with nearly 2,000 seats and currently is home to the hit rock musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. The Foxwoods opened in 1997. The acquisition comes just months after ATG announced plans to expand overseas into key international territories including North America, Australia and the Asia Pacific Region. Berenson & Company LLC acted as the exclusive financial adviser to Ambassador Theatre Group. Recent Broadway productions within the ATG Group include The Mountaintop starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett, Exit The King starring Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon and John Doyle’s award-winning production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. Erich Jungwirth, previously VP Theatrical for The Foxwoods, is remaining with the venue as COO for Lyric Theatre, LLC.

As the summer movie season chugs along with its endless procession of superhero movies, bawdy comedies and animated extravaganzas, "Pacific Rim," a brand new sci-fi property from director Guillermo del Toro, increasingly looks like it will be one of the bright spots on the schedule – it's a go-for-broke epic about giant monsters that crawl out of the Pacific Ocean and the human-piloted giant robots that are called upon to fight them. (You know, the kind of story we can all relate to.) Well, today we've got a brand new TV spot for the monster mash, along with del Toro spilling details about what we can expect from the sequel, if this one turns out to be a graveyard smash.The TV spot features some new imagery (like a giant foot smashing down in what appears to be Tokyo) but is mostly culled from the previous trailers, along with voiceover that explains the general conceit of the movie ("in order to fight monsters, we had to create monsters of our own") and the movie's regrettably lame...

YANGON (Reuters) - Myanmar's government has freed 23 political prisoners, a senior interior ministry official said on Friday, the day President Thein Sein was due to leave for a landmark visit to the United States. The official declined to be identified and would not provide the names of those released or give further details. A member of the 88 Generation Open Society, a pro-democracy activist group, said 10 prisoners had been released from Insein Prison in Yangon, notorious for the harsh treatment of detainees under the military regime that ruled Myanmar almost for half a century. ...
