Breaking Dawn‘s Mia Maestro is set to star opposite Corey Stoll in FX‘s high-profile drama project The Strain, from filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and veteran showrunner Carlton Cuse. The Strain, an adaptation of del Toro’s vampire novel trilogy, formally has a pilot order, but is being eyed for a 13-episode series pickup. The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. Actress-singer Maestro, repped by ICM Partners and 3 Arts, plays Dr. Nora Martinez, who works so closely with Ephraim, they finish each other’s sentences and stumble into an affair. A brilliant biochemist, Martinez cares more about people than the diseases that threaten them, but she will soon be forced to embrace a new identity as a ruthless warrior. Del Toro will direct the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, who also co-authored the books with del Toro. Cuse, who helped develop the adaptation, executive produces alongside del Toro and will serve as showrunner, overseeing the potential series with del Toro. Hogan and Gary Ungar also serve as exec producers of the project, produced by FX Prods. This ... Read More »
Celebrity pregnancy is in the air! Baby showers, registries, possible name choices? The cuteness will continue long after Kate and Kim give birth to their babies. They’ve influenced maternity style and are truly the trendsetters to watch. Speaking of trends, we’ve heard a thing or two about babymoons. You know, the trip that mommy and daddy-to-be go on before the big arrival. Who are we kidding? If you're up on the celeb pregnancy news, you for sure know what all this means. OK! News: Vacation Like a Star in the Hamptons Celebs go on vacas all the time, (like Kim’s jet-setting trip to Greece) but this is a particular event that they should definitely embark on. Why? The concept it just too adorable. We caught up with Jeanenne Tornatore, Senior Editor and Travel Expert for Orbitz for the baby talk and got the deets on the babymoon trend. So where are the popular destinations? Well, Jeanenne told us that they see the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Florida‚—specifically Miami and Fort Lauderdale—as popular destinations and that the time spent usually varies between three-day weekends and week-long event. We personally think it would be cute to see Kate Middleton on a babymoon with her man at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but Kim and Kanye tried out Rio de Janeiro. You know if Kim Kardashian was on one of these, she’d be shopping for designer gems with her man! Jeanenne says the plan usually varies based upon how far along the pregnancy is. “While during earlier months, sightseeing and shopping are popular, women who are further along are looking for things to do on-property at their hotel—spa services, low impact exercise, a pool (with a lazy river), shopping. Couples should look for resorts that have lots to offer on-site or in the immediate vicinity,” she says. Photos: Kim Kardashian Dines in NYC Jeanenne suggests that the couple should clear trips with their doctors before—a very smart idea considering restrictions placed on traveling. You don't want to book a trip and then find out you can't go! This Orbitz editor also suggests, reducing all the travel time (so that everyone stays comfy, happy, and thrilled to be on vaca, of course) and watching the heat and temperature of the destination. Jeanenne says her favorites are the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa trip in Scottsdale for $139 per night and the Turnberry Isle Miami trip for $229 per night. We are excited to bring it to their viewers,” said executive producer Chris Philip, who also serves as CEO for Sierra/Engine Television. “We created the series as a dramatic human experiment shot under difficult conditions and we are thrilled to see it on NBC,” said Ohoven. “The concept of survival, when mysterious elements are at play, makes for a compelling show,” said Jeff Bader, President, Program Planning, Strategy and Research for NBC Entertainment. “We believe a scripted series that offers an insightful behind-the-scenes view of how a reality concept comes together — especially when things don’t go according to plan — will connect with our audience in a very satisfying way.” In 1908, a meteor hit deep into the remote Siberian territory of Tunguska.
