If there is any movie this year at Cannes that is absolutely brimming with promise on paper, it's Guillaume Canet's "Blood Ties." With an extended cast featuring Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Mila Kunis, Matthias Schoenaerts, Zoe Saldana, James Caan, Marion Cotillard, Noah Emmerich and Lili Taylor among others along with a script co-written by James Gray, one wonders how it could go wrong. And while "Blood Ties" isn't a disaster, it's certainly a mess, a sprawling crime saga that endeavours to evoke the great character driven movies of the 1970s, but never quite lives up to its epic scope. Playing out over two-and-a-half very long hours, there is enough plots, subplots and side-stories in the film to fill an entire season of a TV series. We haven't hit Memorial Day Weekend yet, but it's official: Summer Blockbuster Season is underway. Between comic books, Michael Bay's latest flick, a Tom Cruise vehicle, and summer dalliances in the Hamptons, the second installment of the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise almost seems superfluous. Almost. Still, there's plenty of other delightful fare at the cinemas: another "Taken" imitation, a New-York-set coming-of-late-20s-ager, a B-horror movie set in Maine, a Korean thriller that may or may not feature Oedipal urges, and plenty of engaging documentaries. Zoe Saldana celebrated the premiere of her new flick Star Trek: Into Darkness on May 14 in a sheer nude gown by Rodarte. To complement her sultry style, makeup artist Vera Steimberg created a "chic, French-inspired" beauty look. Looking to copy it? Here are Vera's pro tips for attaining a similar style: Watch: Is Amanda Bynes Getting Back To Her Old Self? • For Zoe's deep, red pout, Vera applied Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Hollywood. “As soon as I saw the dress, I knew we had to go with a red lip,” she said. OK! News: How Did Zendaya Conquer Her Shyness? • Vera shaded the actress's eyes with a mixture of soft browns and metallic golds. First she mixed Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Gold and Burnished Copper and applied the combination to Zoe’s eyelids and along the bottom of her lash lines. Next she lined the inside rims of the eyes using Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Special Brown. Then Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Earth Glow was applied under Zoe's eyes, close to her lashes. To define the eyes even more, Vera applied a combination of Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Coffee Ground and Truffle to the outer corners. On a Tour Of Her Closet • To illuminate Zoe's complexion, Vera covered minor imperfections using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-6, followed by a light dusting of Laura Mercier Mineral Illuminating Powder in Candlelight over the star’s face to create a natural glow.
