Previous: Paramount Makes Money Off ‘Avengers’ Too A year ago I was first to toldja about Paramount‘s big payday from The Avengers and Iron Man 3 - the two movies left on its 6-pic distribution deal with Marvel. Now I can tell you how much Disney moolah it pocketed. According to calculations I’ve received from insiders, Paramount receives 9% of Disney’s take on what is expected to be $1.2 billion worldwide gross theatrical receipts plus projected ancillary (like homevideo, VOD, television) for Iron Man 3. So that works out to be about $90 million to the Melrose Avenue studio. Paramount also pockets 8% of Disney’s take on the $1.5 billion worldwide gross theatrical receipts plus ancillary for The Avengers. So that works out to be about $100 million. In other words, the total dollars equal $190M. “It’s very nice,” a Paramount exec deadpanned. Oh, and did I mention that, when I first wrote about this deal, Disney was spitting mad at me? To remind you, The Avengers was the first Marvel Studios film marketed and distributed by The Walt Disney Studios which took over those duties from Paramount in 2012 after Bob Iger bought the comics entertainment company for $4 billion in 2009. Then in 2010 Disney bought Paramount out of the final two films and paid a ... Read More »

So, is "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" gonna be the "Where's Waldo" of comic book movies? Because this is now beyond ridiculous into the surreal. Just to refresh your memory: Charles Xavier, Professor X, Young Magneto, Old Magneto, Beast, Storm, Mystique, Wolverine, Rogue, Shadowcat, Iceman, Colossus, Blink are all set to appear, along with other roles slated to be played by Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing and Adan Canto. And now, Bryan Singer is throwing another nerd log on the fire, with yet another comic character set to spent five seconds on screen. Here's a little mud in your eye "The Avengers 2" -- Evan Peters is going to play Quicksilver in 'Future Past.' Why? Because we're sure it's integral to the story and has nothing to do with Fox wanting to lay claim to the character since it was confirmed he appears in Joss Whedon's sequel script along with sibling hero Scarlet Witch. It's all pretty petty and dumb and frankly, adds another unnecessary layer...

After months of virtual silence on Spike Jonze's long-awaited next film "Her," there's been a relative flurry of activity in the last 24 hours. The sci-fi romance, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as a man who falls in love with his operating system, has been under radars until now, but hot on the heels of the announcement that the film's release date, Warner Bros have spilled the beans on two previously unrevealed cast members on the project (which shot last year). According to the studio, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt are both in the cast, joining Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton and Olivia Wilde. For Johansson, it's the latest smart choice on the top of Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin" and Jon Favreau's "Chef" to counterbalance her superheroic duties on "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "The Avengers 2," while it's another marker in the ascendance to stardom for Pratt. The actor's spent the last couple of years balancing brilliant comedy in "Parks...

Of the three big superhero movies this year, "The Wolverine" might well be the least anticipated at this point. "Iron Man 3" had the heat off "The Avengers," and has already made a billion dollars, while "Man Of Steel" has a reboot, the Christopher Nolan factor and some pretty amazing trailers. Whereas while James Mangold's film is from the longest-running superhero franchise currently going (it's thirteen years since Hugh Jackman first donned the claws), it's coming off two sub-standard films in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "X-Men: First Class," and it's reflected in the relative lack of buzz for the film. That said, it doesn't arrive until the end of July, so Fox have plenty of time to correct that, and the new trailer that just arrived should help quite a bit. It's not wildly different to what we've seen so far, but it takes its time a little more, and feels a bit more muscular and confident as a result, particularly with some of the dodgy effects from previous promos seemingly...
