EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-winning documentary maker Alex Gibney just returned the serve the United States Tennis Association made on Friday when it sued the makers of a documentary about Venus and Serena Williams. The USTA told the U.S. District Court in New York that Venus And Serena uses film footage that infringed the organization’s copyrights including scenes — presumably Serena’s tirade at the 2009 U.S. Open — that are “not in the best interests of the sport.” Gibney, the film’s executive producer, says the USTA is trying to “censor this film about America’s most inspiring female athletes.” His colleagues “were entirely within their legal rights to use a small amount of widely seen footage” citing the ”fair use” doctrine, which enables filmmakers and others to use copyrighted material without permission when it serves the public interest. The concept “is vital to filmmakers trying to tell truthful stories and embodies the essence of the First Amendment of the U.S. constitution,” he says. “Indeed, without the fair use doctrine, copyright itself would be unconstitutional. By its actions, the USTA is assaulting the very principle of free speech.” Showtime has exclusive U.S. rights to air the documentary beginning July 1, but execs may have second thoughts following the suit. Venus And Serena debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in October and has been available on VOD and iTunes. The USTA wants to bar further sales ... Read More »

The Roman design firm Zuccon International Project, which the architects Gianni Zuccon and Paola Galeazzi founded in 1972, has designed countless yachts, including for shipyards in the Ferretti Group. Now, the design firm has launched its own dedicated megayacht branch, Zuccon SuperYacht Design. Its first concept is for a 295-foot yacht with a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. The yacht combines classic lines, as in the dramatically flared bow and rounded decks, with an eye-catching partition amidship...

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show, Spy Photos, Coupe, Performance, Lamborghini, Luxury Facebook user Marchettino (already a minor YouTube celebrity for his supercars channel) spotted the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo throne out and about on public streets and was kind enough to snap a few photos of the machine. Word has it that a concept car precursor to the newest supercar will bow at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show this September under the Cabrera name. As you've likely already heard, the model is said to ride on the second-generation Audi R8 platform, complete with a composite aluminum and carbon fiber construction to reduce weight as much as possible. How light will will the Cabrera be? Lamborghini is reportedly shooting for a curb weight of around 3,300 pounds. Power will likely come from a massaged version of the 5.2-liter V10 in the current Gallardo. Expect around 600 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle in these photos looks to have abandoned some of the Gallardo's angles in favor or more organic lines, though it's possible body cladding is hiding the car's true design. Murcielago SV-style sills and side air intakes serve up quite a bit of aggression and the quad exhaust looks properly menacing as well. We can't wait to see the finished product.Lamborghini Cabrera spotted, ready to fill Gallardo shoes originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 08:45:00 EST. EXCLUSIVE: It has begun to feel like that pre-holiday slumber time, but here is a spec script that just sold in a competitive situation. Lotus Entertainment has landed the rights to Hernany Perla’s spec, Revelation, for a low to mid six figures. Circle Of Confusion’s David Alpert and Stephen Emery will produce with Anil Kurian. Lotus Co-Chairmen Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson will executive produce. D.J. Guggenheim brought in the spec and will oversee the project for Lotus. It’s a high concept thriller with time travel and murder, I’m told. Hernany previously sold the feature spec Day One at MGM and his producing credits include Ghost Team One and the upcoming feature Eden. He was an exec at Lionsgate before the writing took off. Hernany is repped by Original Artists and Madhouse Entertainment. Lotus has been getting aggressive. At Cannes, the label sold out international on the Anne Hathaway-starrer Song One, and arranged financing with Silver Reel on Joshua Marston’s Double Hour with Joel Edgerton and Michelle Williams (with CAA and UTA selling domestic; and Craig Zobel’s Z For Zachariah with Chris Pine, Amanda Seyfried and Chiwetel Ejiofer, and CAA and WME repping domestic. Lotus recently came on board the re-make of Park Chan Wook’s Sympathy For Vengeance, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CJ Entertainment producing.
