'I've never really had an amazing Valentine's Day,' said the 'Sweet Little Lies' author and former 'Hills' star.By Jocelyn Vena Lauren Conrad Photo: MTV News These days novelist and former "Hills" star Lauren Conrad may be happy dating actor Kyle Howard, but it seems that she's been burned enough in the past to have some negative feelings about Valentine's Day. So, when asked if she's got any fond memories of the holiday, she simply said she does not. "I'm not really a Valentine's Day girl. I'm not big on celebrating it. I've never really had an amazing Valentine's Day," she told MTV News while promoting her best-selling novel Sweet Little Lies. "I'm kind of the guy in that way. ... I'm home for the weekend. I don't really do dinner because dinner reservations are hard to get. I just prefer takeout and a movie." Perhaps Conrad has found that she isn't into Valentine's Day thanks to some crummy experiences with boyfriends in the past. She recently told Seventeen magazine that she's finally gained enough self-confidence to make sure men are treating her properly. "Oh, I knew back then when I was being cheated on. But I overlooked it. The more confident me has come to the point where I've finally realized it's not something that everyone does," she shared. "And it's not okay to have your guy hook up with someone else. You deserve better." And it seems she's found something better in current beau Kyle Howard, who loves Conrad for who she is, boyfriend layers and all. "I just ask Kyle, 'You feel like working out?' It's more fun than hitting the gym alone," she said. "We like doing outdoor stuff: tennis, bike riding, kayaking, stand-up surfing, hiking in the canyons around L.A."

Brooklyn-based experimental rock trio make our list of Rock Week Artists to Watch.By James Montgomery Yeasayer Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Who: Yeasayer, a Brooklyn-based experimental rock trio who inexplicably transformed themselves into one of the loopiest pop acts on the planet with Odd Blood, their second full-length (which also might be the best record you'll hear all year). Our third Rock Week Artist to Watch (after fellow Brooklynites Suckers and Florida pop-punk act We the Kings) formed in 2006, wowed critics with their arty All Hour Cymbals debut, toured relentlessly, then discovered their inner Britneys and started over from scratch. The end result is Blood, which doesn't hit stores until February 9 but has already been heaped with so much critical praise that one can't help but think they're this year's Animal Collective (a statement that, in the vociferous void of the blogosphere, carries significant weight). Sound Like: Wavy, dreamy pop music for the 22nd century, Odd Blood is full of supple, electronic fields that undulate and dip, creating precipitous peaks and delving canyons, with frontman Chris Keating's otherworldly vocals floating above it all like plump clumps of cumulonimbus — all of which is a rather bookish way of saying Britney, Katy and Gaga wish they could sound this good. Cleveland Rocks?: Though the praise being piled on Blood is thrilling, the guys in Yeasayer have been down this path before. And they know all the blog buzz in the world can't sell out a club, especially if that club happens to be in Cleveland. "The early days of being a band suck. We were hungry, we were lonely, we were sad. We toured sleeping in a van," Keating laughed. "Everyone says we got our breakout moment at South by Southwest in 2007, which we always find very funny, because after that, we did a couple tours, and we played a show in Cleveland in front of, like, 25 people. Then we came back a second time a few months later, and there were three people there. So we're kind of scared to go back to Cleveland." It's Rock Week At MTV News! » Hayley Williams » Suckers » My Chemical Romance » Blink-182 » Gabe Saporta » We The Kings » Linkin Park » Owl City » Yeasayer The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: After jettisoning the more worldly sounds of Cymbals in favor of their pop present, Yeasayer never looked back. OK, maybe they did a couple of times. "In order to make a record, you almost have to fully exorcise demons and ideas and the documents from of a period in your life, which is easier said than done," Keating said. "It's kind of like j---ing off to your ex-girlfriend. You still do it, but there's an element of shame to it. I put on the old songs now, and I'm kind of like 'OK, I've got to move on.' " Miserable Nonetheless: If Keating weren't fronting Yeasayer, he's not sure what he'd be doing — but he knows he'd be pretty unhappy doing it. "If I wasn't in a band, I would probably be working in the film industry," he said, "being miserable and trying to be in a band." It's Rock Week at MTV News, and to celebrate, we're taking a look at some of the most-anticipated new albums and bands of 2010. Stay tuned all week for more! Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, Mercedes-Benz, Celebrities Looks oddly familiar, no? - Click above to watch the video "Every major city must have a great race track hidden in it somewhere." So starts Jay Leno's first car mini-film, The Fast and the Famous. The conceit is this: like all car guys (and gals), Leno acknowledges that the greatest car movie ever made is Claude Lelouch's C'etait un Rendez-Vous. With that in mind, Jay gets half-a-dozen cameras mounted up to the same red SLS AMG he had in his garage and goes semi-hooning through the streets of Los Angeles in a fun homage to Lelouch's Seventies masterpiece. Of course, not just any streets. Leno comes up with the hypothesis that LA's hidden circuit is Mulholland east to Laurel Canyon south to Sunset Boulevard west to Coldwater Canyon north back to Mulholland. Interestingly, not only is this route about 13 miles long - similar in length to Germany's famed Nürburgring Nordschleife - but it's also somewhat shaped like the Nordschleife. A very cool coincidence if you ask us. Is he right? As a near-lifelong Angleno this particular writer agrees, sorta. If there was a way to magically ban all traffic from Laurel and Coldwater Canyons then yeah, totally. Especially as Sunset and Mulholland are usually alright if you pick the right time of day. But as you'll see in the making of, this ten minute clip took three days to shoot. However, we think we know of a hidden race track laying just outside the city of angels, but we'll save that for another day. Until then, jump to watch both videos.Continue reading VIDEO: Jay Leno recreates C'etait un Rendez-Vous on LA's "N

SPACE.com - Mars' great canyon complex, Valles Marineris, dwarfs the size and splendor of Earth's own Grand Canyon. But while geologists have a formed a fairly complete picture of how the Grand Canyon formed, the mechanisms that carved out Valles Marineris and its component canyons have been a longstanding mystery, with explanations ranging from massive floods to tectonic processes like those that cause earthquakes and build mountains on Earth.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The blast walls that have divided Baghdad communities and turned its streets into canyons of concrete since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003 will be removed within 40 days, Iraq said on Wednesday.
