AP - A NASA astronaut says he wants to help Mexican officials start the country's first space agency.

SPACE.com - In the chronicles of UFO oddness, there's been a long-standing oddity ? some say folklore, others deem it reality. This saga, now over four decades old, centers on a reported out-of-the-sky incident involving the small town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania.

AFP - Russian champions Rubin Kazan failed to really turn the pressure on Champions League holders Barcelona on Tuesday as they were held 0-0 by Dynamo Kiev in their Group F match.

SPACE.com - The seven astronauts on shuttle Atlantis have bid farewell to the crew of the space station and are gearing up to undock on Wednesday.

SPACE.com - A new solar telescope, scheduled to launch this winter, will probe the sun's atmosphere and inner workings, helping scientists better understand how solar storms.

Take a look up in the night sky. Whether on a mountaintop, largely unfazed by light pollution, or wedged in the heart of a muddied-sky metropolis, thank your lucky stars that you can see anything at all. A new study investigating the disruptive effects of galaxies merging or tugging on each other shows that there should be numerous stars thrown from their habitual confines during such interactions and into intergalactic space. From a planet encircling one of those lonely stars, the heavens would make for pretty dull viewing.

SPACE.com - A new website will let people play a form of "cosmic slot machine," matching up images of colliding galaxies with millions of simulated mash-ups to find the best model.

SPACE.com - In the entrepreneurial space business, there's nothing like the "cone of silence" surrounding the rocket work of billionaire Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com fame.

SPACE.com - The crew of the shuttle Atlantis plans to spend today wrapping up work at the International Space Station (ISS) in preparation for departure tomorrow.

AP - After a week together, the crews of shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station said goodbye Tuesday and closed the hatches between them.

Was Newton right and Einstein wrong? It seems that unzipping the fabric of spacetime and harking back to 19th-century notions of time could lead to a theory of quantum gravity.Physicists have struggled to marry quantum mechanics with gravity for decades. In contrast, the other forces of nature have obediently fallen into line. For instance, the electromagnetic force can be described quantum-mechanically by the motion of photons. Try and work out the gravitational force between two objects in terms of a quantum graviton, however, and you quickly run into trouble--the answer to every calculation is infinity. But now Petr Hořava, a physicist at the University of California, Berkeley, thinks he understands the problem. It’s all, he says, a matter of time.

SPACE.com - Several lines of evidence point to the possibility of a past ocean on Mars, from apparent ancient shorelines to chemicals in the soil.
